Stupid question. Depends on who does the swap, depends on how you source the parts, depends on your skill level. You don’t want to daily an LS E36/E46. The amount of money it will take to do it all and keep the AC and make it reliable with new parts… gonna be $25k+. I actually have an LS E36 M3 and did it myself. 1. Put a piece of wood between your jack and the oil pan (to distribute the load) and jack the engine up from the right side of the oil pan. This in turn will raise the right side of your engine. 2. Lift until it is possible to take the mount out. Undo the bottom nut and take the mount out. 3.
Here is how I swapped M54B30 (or M54B25) into 1986 E30, I will only cover information that is different than M50 installation. M54b30 is a great engine, its not all about peak power. This engine is nice and smooth running with original MS43 engine management. They are made from 2001 to 2006.
